Conference Marking the 100th Anniversary of the Civil Code and the Code of Obligations- Inspired by Swiss Codes, Faculty of Law at Galatasaray University, 11 May 2026

The Swiss Chamber of Commerce in Türkiye (SCCT) was honoured to co-organise the conference commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Reception of the Swiss Civil Code and the Code of Obligations in Türkiye, in collaboration with the Embassy of Switzerland to Türkiye and the Faculty of Law at Galatasaray University.

Hosted by Galatasaray University on 11 May 2026, the conference brought together distinguished academics, members of the judiciary, legal practitioners, and students to reflect on the century-long legal relationship between Switzerland and Türkiye and to explore future perspectives for legal cooperation between the two countries.

The conference opened with remarks by Prof. Dr. Ceren Zeynep Pirim, Dean of the Faculty of Law at Galatasaray University; H.E. Guillaume Scheurer, Ambassador of Switzerland to Türkiye; Prof. Dr. Mehmet Erdem, Head of the Department of Civil Law; and Prof. Dr. Zeynep Üskül Engin, Head of the Department of Philosophy and Sociology of Law.

Throughout the conference, leading legal experts presented comparative analyses of recent developments in the Swiss and Turkish legal systems. The sessions focused on key areas including family law, children’s rights, civil liability, and contemporary developments in compensation law, providing participants with valuable academic and practical perspectives.

The programme concluded with a roundtable discussion entitled “One Hundred Years Later: Switzerland–Türkiye, What is the Next Milestone?”, moderated by Arpat Şenocak, President of the Swiss Chamber of Commerce in Türkiye. During the discussion, Aylin Güney King, Partner at Bonnard Lawson, and Doğan Eymirlioğlu, Partner at BASEAK, shared their perspectives on the future of legal cooperation and its contribution to strengthening the economic and commercial relationship between Switzerland and Türkiye.
