TURKEY’S CLEAN ENERGY POTENTIAL IS VERY HIGH

“Turkey Energy Outlook: Energy Markets, Investments and Technologies” webinar within the Switzerland-Austria-Germany Embassies’ 3-Country Business Meeting Series was held on Wednesday, March 17 in cooperation with the Embassy of Switzerland in Turkey, Sabancı University Istanbul International Center for Energy and Climate (IICEC) and Swiss Chamber of Commerce in Turkey.

Turkey’s high potential, in renewable energy lead by wind and solar, energy efficiency, electric vehicles and many other clean energy options was underlined at the webinar. It was emphasized that the growth to be achieved in these areas in the coming years would contribute to a more secure and clean energy future.

“Turkey Energy Outlook: Energy Markets, Investments and Technologies” webinar within the Switzerland-Austria-Germany Embassies’ 3-Country Business Meeting Series was held on Wednesday, March 17 in cooperation with the Embassy of Switzerland in Turkey, Sabancı University Istanbul International Center for Energy and Climate (IICEC) and Swiss Chamber of Commerce in Turkey.

Head of Economic and Cultural Affairs & Counsellor at the Embassy of Switzerland in Turkey, Ariane Tinner and Sabancı University IICEC Coordinator, Dr. Mehmet Doğan Üçok delivered the welcoming speeches. Sabancı University IICEC Director, Bora Şekip Güray made a presentation with emphasize on “Energy Markets, Investments and Technologies” from IICEC’s Turkey Energy Outlook (TEO) which is a first-of-its-kind study in Turkey and exemplary for emerging energy economies IICEC Director Bora Şekip Güray shared the main findings from the TEO study, on the basis of sub-sectors and technologies

Strong growth dynamics of the Turkish energy sector, investment potential, importance of sustaining investments and the transition to a more competitive energy market of the Turkey energy sector were underlined by Güray. Güray.presented 10 Turkey Energy Outlook recommendations for a more secure, efficient, competitive, technology-oriented and sustainable energy future.

Güray emphasized that Turkey has a high potential in renewable energy lead by wind and solar, energy efficiency, electric vehicles and many other clean energy options and pointed out that the growth to be achieved in these areas in the upcoming period would contribute to a more secure and clean energy future.

Reminding that Sabancı University IICEC has been working on energy and climate issues for many years, IICEC Coordinator, Dr. Mehmet Doğan Üçok said:
“11 years ago, we established IICEC as a high-level exchange platform to bring together; policy-makers, industry, and academia with a common purpose, towards a better and a more sustainable energy future. As you know, IICEC is expanding its activities and sphere of influence within the “Success Triangle” together with policymakers, industry and academics. IICEC is the “first” in Turkey with this “Success Triangle” model and provides a distinguished platform fostering the exchange and development of ideas, gathering all the key stakeholders involved in energy and climate fields. As a globally recognized center, IICEC conducts objective, quality economic and policy research on the future of energy and climate issues. In this context, IICEC has published the Turkey Energy Outlook (TEO) study that is also a first of its kind. This year, another major project of IICEC will be the “Turkey Electric Vehicles Outlook”, which will address the Electric Vehicles and e-mobility ecosystem in Turkey, with its growth prospects, in a comprehensive analytical perspective.”

Expressing their pleasure to co-host this event, the Head of Economic and Cultural Affairs & Counsellor at the Embassy of Switzerland in Turkey, Ariane Tinner said: “We learned a lot about Turkey’s energy sector and how to develop energy portfolio in a sustainable and environmentally friendly manner. I find it very useful that this study and the presentation includes concrete recommendations to reach important future goals.”
